Washington Monument

Washington Monument is one of the ancient monuments of Washington. This historical mansion was built in the memory of the first president of the United States, George Washington. It is located on the 15th Street of Washington in the United States of America. The transportation near this site provides easy access to different parts of the city.

The Washington monument, made of sandstone, marble and granite, is about five hundred and fifty five feet high. It is said that in the year 1884, the construction of the monument started and in 1884, it finally ended.

History of Washington Monument
George Washington, the first President of the United States, was known as the Father of the Country. In 1775, he was elected as the commander of the Continental Army. He was the President of the Constitutional Convention in the year 1787. At the end of the Revolutionary War, George Washington was regarded as the most respected person of the nation. He was appreciated for winning the war inspite of weak and unprofessional soldiers. Washington was the person who planned out to create a Government that was needed by the nation. He build up a national bank and thereby strenghtened the army and navy force. After Washington died, a large number of Americans decided to form the Washington National Monument Society. In the year 1835, a monument was decided to be built in his tribute.

The Washington Monument is built in the shape of an Egyptian dagger. It has attracted the attention of thousands of tourists who come from all over the world to see this magnificent monument. The Washington Monument remains open on all days from morning nine till five in the evening. One can enter the place without a ticket.

Washington Monument is and will remain as one of the famous historical sites of Washington.
