Located on the North of the Federal Triangle, this majestic Roman construction has a 315 foot tall clock tower. Built in 1899, Old Post Office Building has an expansive courtyard, right in the middle of the property. In the late sixties, the building was about to be demolished.
But the efforts of Nancy Hanks and Arthur Cotton Moore helped in the revival of this magnificent structure. It took tremendous public pressure and convincing to dissuade Congress from bringing down this magnificent Romanesque structure. Officially known as the Nancy Hanks Center, Old Post Office Building offers loads of entertainment every day to thousands of visitors.
The National Park Service offers a specially arranged tour at the Old Post Office Tower. Enjoy one of the most breathtaking view of the rising skyline of Washington DC from the 270 foot-high observation deck. While touring the tower, do not miss the Congress bells which are a set of 10 change ringing bells, gifted by Great Britain to US Congress. As you attend the Exhibition on the famous struggle of Old Post Office Building which lasted for seven decades, you will definitely get nostalgic.
