Old Post Office Building

Structured like a pristine Basilica Old Post Office Building is a major tourist attraction in the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia Mail Depot was shifted to a new building in 1914. Henceforth, the building at 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue was better known as the "Old Post Office Building". A luring center of attraction Old Post Office Building in DC today is a multipurpose commercial space. Studded with the finest shopping malls of the country, along with eateries and taverns Old Post Office Building offers the best of all the worlds.

Located on the North of the Federal Triangle, this majestic Roman construction has a 315 foot tall clock tower. Built in 1899, Old Post Office Building has an expansive courtyard, right in the middle of the property. In the late sixties, the building was about to be demolished.

But the efforts of Nancy Hanks and Arthur Cotton Moore helped in the revival of this magnificent structure. It took tremendous public pressure and convincing to dissuade Congress from bringing down this magnificent Romanesque structure. Officially known as the Nancy Hanks Center, Old Post Office Building offers loads of entertainment every day to thousands of visitors.

The National Park Service offers a specially arranged tour at the Old Post Office Tower. Enjoy one of the most breathtaking view of the rising skyline of Washington DC from the 270 foot-high observation deck. While touring the tower, do not miss the Congress bells which are a set of 10 change ringing bells, gifted by Great Britain to US Congress. As you attend the Exhibition on the famous struggle of Old Post Office Building which lasted for seven decades, you will definitely get nostalgic.

Built in the 1890s and Old Post Office Building has an interior glass-roofed atrium with a food court that offers delicious dishes to please all the gourmets from across the world. A true specimen of scientific innovation, Old Post Office Building is a strong steel building garbed with a granite skin. Undoubtedly a symbol of prestige for the US postal department, it is among the very few buildings that can boast of a clock tower.
