National Cathedral

The National Cathedral is the cathedral church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the city of Washington. It is an Episcopal cathedral in Washington D.C. capital of United States. The monument has even got its name registered in the National Register of Historic Places. Recently in 2007 in a survey done by the American Institute of Architects it was voted as one of the three most beautiful buildings in United States.

The National Cathedral is considered as the official seat of the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Episcopal in USA. Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation built the national cathedral. The construction of the cathedral began in the year 1907 and it lasted for 83 years. The Episcopal Cathedral Foundation operates and funds the cathedral and it does not receive any government or local funding.

The National Cathedral is located at the intersection of Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues in Washington’s Northwest quadrant. It is the sixth largest cathedral in the world and second largest in United States. At present Samuel T. Lloyd III, is the dean of the cathedral. He took charge of office on 23rd April 2005. The worship department of the cathedral is served by Carol L.Wade. From Sunday through Thursday evening song is sung by the choir of the cathedral. It is a forty minute service which is attended by about fifty to seventy people at a time. The cathedral also serves as temporary home to some congregations.
