Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery

Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery is located in the 14th Qincy Streets Brookland northeast Washington D.C. in the monastery there is garden and Catacombs replica. It is better considered as an archive, a library and also bones of Saint Benignus of Armagh. Religious medals of the monastery are frequently available in the gift shop.

It was Charles A. Vassani who first established the holy land Cmmissariat in the year 1880 which is located in New York at 143 W. 95th Street. The holy church was designed by the roman architect Aristide Leonori and was built between 1898 to 1899. The floors of the church are constructed following the Byzantine style following the Romanesque influences. The Rosary Portico surrounds the church with fifteen chapels that commemorate the lives of Jesus and Mary. A monastery is attached at the rear of the church built in the monastic style of the late Romanesque. Since many years, the monastery has had many secular and religious artists and architects who have contributed to the development of the site.

The architects who designed the structure of the Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery were the Aristide Leonori and John Joseph Earley.

The monastery also comprises some library and archives that contain materials in different formats. It also includes certain other materials such as photographs and scrapbooks that document monastic life. The Archives also contains the personal papers of monastery’s founder Father Godfrey Schilling, and a large collection of gowns. The floor of the church represents the five-fold Crusader Cross of Jerusalem.

In September 1924, the Church was sanctified the day was celebrated as the twenty-fifth anniversary of its dedication. In 1991, Mount St. Sepulchre, with its Monastery and Church, became a National Historic Monument. The Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery is internationally famous.
