Corcoran Gallery of Art

The Corcoran art gallery is the largest private art institution in Washington D.C. the museum basically focusses on the promotion of American art by displaying art from American artists. The gallery is internationally famous and is visited for its exclusive collections that include works by Rembrandt, Eugène Delacroix, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and many others. The gallery also holds different exhibitions and remains crowded by local art lovers.

The Corcoran art gallery is considered as the oldest and the largest non federal art gallery located in the district of Columbia. It was founded in the year 1869 by William Wilson Corcoran person who also founded the Riggs Bank. It is also considered as one of the first fine art gallery in the world. The gallery as a part of its mission focusses on the American art and its promotion throughout the world.

The original building of the Corcoran art gallery also called as Beaux Arts was structured by famous architect Earnest Flagg. The gallery building is extended in an area of about 135,000 square feet. The Corcoran holds a staff of about 185 people with an operating budget of about $20 million. The gallery receives revenues from varied sources such as grants, contributions, admission fees, tuition fees, membership dues and several other sources. Recently in June 2007 the Corcoran art gallery got first rank on Charity Navigator’s list of "10 Highly Paid CEO's at Low-Rated Charities". The Corcoran art gallery was given star because of its organizational efficiency and capacity.
