US Capitol

The United States Capitol or the US capitol is the building serving the Government seat in the United States Congress which is the legislative branch of the federal government in United States. The US capitol is located on the Capitol Hill top in the eastern end of the National mall in Washington D.C. the building of US capitol was originally designed by William Thornton and the plain was modified by Stephen Hallet, Benjamin Latrobe and finally Charles Bulfinch. The present dome of the capitol the house and the senate wings were designed by Thomas U.Walter and August Schoenborn.

The building is famous by its central dome that stands above a rotunda and the two wings. Each represents the particular chamber of commerce. Above the chambers are the galleries by standing where the visitors watch the senate and House of Representatives. The entire building is designed following the Neoclassical architecture style. The site for building the United States capitol was selected by Pierre Charles LEnfant. This site is located at bout one mile distance from the White House. Before 1800 about eight buildings and cities hosted congress. The original capital was New York when the congress met in the city hall. Next capital became the Philadelphia which served as the capital from 1790 to 1800.

The base of the construction of the capitol was given by George Washington on 18th September, 1793. The capitol was built and later expanded in the year 1850 by the labor of slaves. The actual plan of construction was to bring the workers from Europe. The Supreme Court also met in the Capitol until its own building was completed in 1935.

During the 20th century some underground tunnels connecting the main capitol building were built. Almost all the rooms in the capitol are either built with the purpose of senate or house.
