The Georgetown section is renowned for its wide variety of mid-range to high-end retail shops. The shops line M Street and Wisconsin Avenue.
The Union Station shops include a wide range of retail outlets selling clothing, stationery, and shoes, among other things.
A recent boom has been seen along the downtown Verizon Center/Chinatown. Innumerable new restaurants and stores have opened along 7th Street, NW between H Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, creating a bustling shopping district. A new bowling alley and multiplex cinema have also opened adjacent to the Verizon Center.
There are small shops around the Capitol Building and the White House that sell souvenirs. Street vendors are located near the tourist destinations, such as along the National Mall. The Eastern Market in the District of Columbia is open every Sunday for antiques dealers, secondhand book dealers, and local artists, photographers, and craftspeople to display their wares.
