Shopping in District of Columbia

The District of Columbia has plenty of malls and upscale shopping destinations. The Chevy Chase shopping district is one of the most upscale fashion districts. It is near the Friendship Heights Metro stop, straddling the D.C.-Maryland border within two blocks of the Red Line station of the same name. This area has many high-end stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gucci, Versace, Dior and many more are situated in and around the Mazza Gallerie and Chevy Chase Pavilion shopping centers. There is also a lot of day spas in the area.
The Georgetown section is renowned for its wide variety of mid-range to high-end retail shops. The shops line M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The Union Station shops include a wide range of retail outlets selling clothing, stationery, and shoes, among other things. A recent boom has been seen along the downtown Verizon Center/Chinatown. Innumerable new restaurants and stores have opened along 7th Street, NW between H Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, creating a bustling shopping district. A new bowling alley and multiplex cinema have also opened adjacent to the Verizon Center.

There are small shops around the Capitol Building and the White House that sell souvenirs. Street vendors are located near the tourist destinations, such as along the National Mall. The Eastern Market in the District of Columbia is open every Sunday for antiques dealers, secondhand book dealers, and local artists, photographers, and craftspeople to display their wares.
